Why do I need training?

Lift trucks are essential to almost any business needing  to move either bulk or pallated materials.  Different types of trucks and attachments make them even more adaptable and effective business tools.  Even the most experienced lift truck operators can find themselves in hazardous and potentially dangerous situations.  Serious accidents can and do occur without proper training.  Training is a legal requirement.  The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require employees to ensure that lift trucks are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training and assessed in accordance with the Code of Practice for lift trucks laid down by the Health and Safety Commission.  The Code of Practice recognises Lantra Awards as an accrediting body for the training and assessment of lift truck operators.
